Sara, an orphan girl, and the other Townspeople of Hamelin Town turn to the Mayor of Hamelin and his Council when their town is threatened. They then call on the Pied Piper to save them from the troublesome creatures. The Mayor's son and daughter and the Cooks also join in the endeavor. Man 1, Bank 0

Friday, January 29, 2010
7:30 pm

In Man 1, Bank 0, Patrick Combs, a former TV personality for Paramount’s hit shows Real TV and Hard Copy, tells the amazing-but-true story of how he deposited a $95,093.35 junk-mail check marked "non-negotiable" hoping to spread a little banking cheer to tellers. However, it erupted into a staggering and funny David vs. Goliath-like adventure that received worldwide media coverage, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Good Morning America.

The show sold out in New York during its off-Broadway run at the Lambs Theatre in the heart of Times Square, as well as at HBO’s 2004 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival held in Aspen. Combs has toured internationally with Man 1, Bank 0, and the show won the prize for Best Comedy at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, which is the most prestigious comedy festival in the world. BroadwayWorld.com says Man 1, Bank 0 is "one of the funniest, most fascinating and fastest moving solo plays to hit New York in many a season." They go on to say it is "an edge of your seat adventure loaded with unbelievable real-life surprise."

Postcards from Italy

Postcards from Italy is an insider’s look at southern Italy. Joseph Campbell has written, "one way or another we have to find what fosters our humanity in this contemporary life and dedicate ourselves to that." In this film you will see how some Italians are trying to do exactly that, from an art teacher and artist in Palermo to the owner of a doll hospital in Naples, to the Mayor of Irsina and many more, each with a unique story to tell. Postcards from Italy is a collection of vignettes and travel experiences that will unveil places you may know, introduce you to people you may have met and document life in Italy in a way you have never before seen. Join director Steve McCurdy as he introduces the film, then join him afterwards for a Q&A session. Delve even further into the Italian culture with our food demonstration before the film.

The Elders

The Elders
Friday, March 19, 2010
7:30 pm

The Elders have set the American music scene on its ear, thanks to a skillful mix of amped-up roots rock, augmented with powerful vocals, blazing instrumentals and top-notch song-writing. The line up consists of a group of wicked-fine Kansas City musicians with a passion for Celtic music and a charismatic Irishman with a love of all things American. This combination makes for cross-pollination that is high octane and progressive, yet rooted in tradition. Their songs are mystical, comical, political and cultural while covering a wide variety of topics such as poverty, civil war, family bonds, spirituality, love and friendship. They speak of generations of immigrants and address their heritage through songs and stories of history, characters, places and events – some distant, some recent, some real and some imagined. Celebrate a belated St. Patrick’s Day with the SMPAC and The Elders.
