This spring the South Milwaukee High School Theatre Company is proud to present Bye Bye Birdie.
This Tony Award winning musical originally starred Dick Van Dyke and Chita Rivera and enjoyed a Broadway revival in 2009.
A comedy that all ages will enjoy, Bye Bye Birdie presents a hilarious satire of the 1950s.
Inspired by Elvis Presley's draft notice in 1957, the plot follows the teenage hysteria that occurs when rock star Conrad Birdie is drafted into the army.
Conrad's manager Albert Peterson, along with Peterson's love interest Rosie, devises a plan to promote Birdie a final time by promising one lucky girl a kiss from the star on national television ("One Last Kiss").
Unfortunately, the girl, Kim MacAfee, has a jealous boyfriend and a family who is not used to the limelight.
In addition, Albert and Rosie have to contend with Mrs. Peterson, Albert's overly protective mother, who will stop at nothing to keep her son single.
Romantic comedy ensues as all of these characters interact on stage and the results will keep the audience in stitches!
Audience members will also enjoy familiar songs such as "Put on a Happy Face," "Honestly Sincere," "Kids," and "Hymn to a Sunday Evening."
Don't miss this opportunity to see South Milwaukee High School students at their best!
